Barbara Brown Conrod has been making and exhibiting artwork for over 30 years. Her first public exhibition was in British Columbia in 1986. Using a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil, charcoal, pastels, encaustic and collage, she is influenced by the bright colours of the French Impressionists, especially Matisse, with his use of simplified forms and cut outs in planning a composition. When working from life she will often allow the materials to dictate how her artwork develops.

Barbara's subject matter is personal and evolves from her  physical surroundings, and day-to-day life and social issues she is involved with. These include but are not limited to social justice and the climate crisis. Brown Conrod's work reflects her personal journey which resonates with others through shared common experiences and emotions.

She has exhibited extensively in the last few years, her latest solo show was The Art of Balancing Grief and Joy in July 2024 at the Fraser Gallery, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her paintings are in private collections in Canada and Internationally.
